(WOOPS Last week I punched the wrong button on my computer and CvilleBuzz went up on the web site, but it didn’t go out in the mailing. Here it is again, with a couple additions.) Nancy and I went to see a camper van last Sunday. We need one of these like a hole in the head, but we’ve always had fun looking at campers and campgrounds, dating back some 40 years. The camper was … [Read more...]
Seven Layer Bars
My mom used to make Seven Layer Bars, especially if company was coming. These sweet morsels are to die for – rich, creamy, chocolaty and delicious. I thought about Mom and those bars recently and decided to make a batch for some kids I cook for. As expected, each and every one was wolfed down and an order is now on the table for more, any time I want to make a batch. Seven Layer … [Read more...]
Triple Chocolate Mess
I found a recipe in one of my many cherished Church Cookbooks that looked interesting – especially if M7Ms, Reese’s Cups, chocolate pie and candies are your thing. Choco-holics, you know who you are. My thought on deserts are that if they don’t have chocolate in them, why bother? Just have another helping of potatoes. But this recipe caught my eye – Triple Chocolate Mess? They named it … [Read more...]
Oreo Stuffed Chocolate Chip Cookies
Wanna really indulge yourself, or maybe put a few children on a cloud of pure elation? Then make a batch of Oreo Stuffed Chocolate Chip Cookies. I saw this recipe someplace recently, and since I do a little cooking for a family with three kids, I thought I’d give it a shot. It’s really good and quite a treat for any choc-aholic. You start with a package of Thin Oreos. Don’t know … [Read more...]
Baked Tomato Slices
I felt creative a few weeks back. I also needed some color to add to my Chicken Stuffed with Cream Cheeses entrée. Why not bake some tomato slices, I thought? And I did. I decide to slice the smallish tomatoes and place them on a little round piece of wrap bread. It was the sun-dried basil version by Mission Wraps. I cut a circle with a biscuit cutter to match the size of the tomato. … [Read more...]
Cheese Stuffed Chicken Breasts
I was suffering through another case of chicken fatigue, trying to figure out how to eat more of the weight-loss inducing poultry and have it taste great at the same time. In one of my Yummly e-mails (sign up to this site at yummly.com) and I saw an interesting recipe for Bacon Wrapped Cheese-Stuffed Chicken Breasts. You know that anything wrapped in bacon is going to be good, even if … [Read more...]
Homemade Raisin Bread
As a child, I remember a special treat Mom occasionally bought from the grocery store - a loaf of raisin bread, made by Sunbeam if memory serves. It was covered with sweet frosting, which I immediately licked off the top of my slices. We ate the bread plain or toasted. It rarely lasted more than a day in our house. A special treat I have been making is homemade raisin bread. For the past year, … [Read more...]
Roasted Cauliflower
As comedian Ron White once said when approached by a police officer while drunk at a bar, “I had the right to remain silent. I just didn’t have the ability.” Ron subsequently gave the cop some lip and spent the night in the pokey. Similarly, I know how to lose weight, but I often lack the ability. Losing weight is most difficult if you like to cook, eat out occasionally … [Read more...]
Yummy, It’s Yummly
I don’t know how I got hooked up with this website, but a recipe I saw in a pop-up ad caught my attention. The site was “Yummly”. They offered to send me weekly recipes, so I said, “What the heck, if I don’t like it, I’ll sign off.” Boy do I like it. I read each recipe and have used several already. This is a great site for all sorts of “Yummy Yummlies”. Below is one of their recipes for No … [Read more...]
Pop Up Parchment
I have recently discovered the joy of parchment paper, not just for baking cookies and using beneath other objects that stick to the pan, but for anything you’d like to cook that makes cleaning up an easier task. So I have been burning through the parchment paper. A few weeks back – completely out of the non-stick stuff – I saw an interesting product beside the normal rolls of parchment paper. … [Read more...]
