I have recently discovered the joy of parchment paper, not just for baking cookies and using beneath other objects that stick to the pan, but for anything you’d like to cook that makes cleaning up an easier task. So I have been burning through the parchment paper.
A few weeks back – completely out of the non-stick stuff – I saw an interesting product beside the normal rolls of parchment paper. It was a package of pre-cut sheets that popped up, one at a time, sorta’ like Kleenex. It was a Kroger product called Pop Up Parchment, about $4 for 40 sheets, so I gave it a try. Good stuff! If you haven’t used this, fellow chefs, try it.
The sheets fit most baking pans and cookies sheets, and it save the agony of having to rip off a piece, only to find it too small or too large, and jagged to boot.
I now keep a pack on hand and use it practically daily.
One thing it’s especially good for is fixing Rice Krispies Treats (bars). Everybody alive loves these sweet, sticky bars, especially kids, and they are super easy to make and much easier to clean up with parchment paper.
The recipe is time tested, so if you haven’t made a batch in a while – do it, and try not to eat a half-dozen when you’re finished. Best of all, there is no baking involved.
Rice Krispies Treats
6 cups Rice Krispies
4 T butter
1 7-oz.jar of marshmallow crème
Melt the butter, then scoop out the marshmallow crème and mix thoroughly with the butter (this is easier than melting whole marshmallows). Pour the gooey mixture over a bowl with 6 cups of Krispies and toss. Next, pour the mixture into a casserole dish (with parchment on the bottom). Press thoroughly along the sides and bottom, let set stand for a half-hour and find some kids that are hungry.
Everything is easier with parchment paper.
