Summer With Jimmy O

June 15, 2017 by Jim Brewer

Summer is here at last and hopefully the monsoon season is over. It’s time to spend and evening or an afternoon outside, maybe with a good glass of wine and definitely with some good music in the background. And no one does great background music like Jimmy O, who is single handedly on a mission to preserve endangered music – music from folks like The Everly Bothers, Sam Cooke, Neil … [Read more...]

Second Best Chili

June 15, 2017 by Jim Brewer

We had a last minute cook out last weekend, with dogs and burgers as the featured entrees. I am a hot dog fanatic and looked forward to the makeshift picnic supper. But…. I was out of hot dog chili. I usually make it in advance and store small containers in the freezer, but I was out and didn’t have time to make a fresh batch. Eating a hot dog without good chili is like….well, eating a hot … [Read more...]

Growing Stuff

June 15, 2017 by Jim Brewer

It’s been a strange year, weather-wise. It was summer-like weather in March, then rain, then cold, then more rain, then hot. My garden doesn’t know whether to start producing or give up. But stuff is growing, My tomatoes aren’t producing Jack-In-The-Beanstalk stalks this year, which is a good thing. The plants are shorter, but healthier. Last year it would have taken Shaquille … [Read more...]

Good numbers of early season fish, with many pushing to over 50-pounds, are contributing to a good start to the fishing … [Read more...]

Boomers and Bicycles

June 8, 2017 by Jim Brewer

Every Boomer remembers that first bicycle. Next to turning 16 and getting a drivers license, the biggest day in the life of a youngster was getting a new bike. The reason bikes were so critical during the early Boomer years is because families generally had only one car, and the dads had them at work. That meant if you wanted to go some place, like baseball practice, the movies, or the swimming … [Read more...]

Cobia On Deck

June 8, 2017 by Jim Brewer

By Dr. Ken Neill, III   Cobia are being caught in good numbers by both sight fishing and chumming tactics. A lot of nice cobia are being caught and there is a tremendous number of small cobia around. Anglers looking for cobia are also encountering schools of big red drum. Offshore boats are having good success. Yellowfin tuna are the main catch along with good numbers of dolphin. A … [Read more...]

The Beer Revolution

June 8, 2017 by Jim Brewer

Changes are brewing in the beer industry! In case you haven’t noticed, beer is undergoing a transition from the big brewery name brands to small brewer craft beers. The last few years have seen huge gains in market share for small microbrewers with rapid expansion to keep up with demand. “Here at Rio Hill Wine & Gourmet, we have always had a focus on craft beers,” stated Doug … [Read more...]
