A variety of fish are hitting baits for both surf anglers and pier jockeys. Pompano, bluefish, puppy drum, black drum, specks, spot and a few flounder were cooperative.
Sound anglers were catching undersize stripers, some croakers, speckled trout, a few puppies and black drum.
On Wednesday, offshore anglers brought in a slew of meat fish. Boats limited out on dolphin, and also boated plenty of yellowfin and good numbers of blackfin tuna.
Hatteras Surf
On Wednesday, Red Drum reported that The Point had some Spanish in the morning. The afternoon and evening produced bluefish and bar jacks. The south side of the Point had sea mullet. Hatteras inlet anglers caught lots of bluefish on bait and metal, some undersize puppy drum and small flounder. Avon had croakers, sea mullet and puppy drum. The sound side produced some pretty speckle trout and puppy drum.
Hatteras Offshore
Slick calm waters and beautiful Carolina skies on Wednesday made for a memorable day of fishing. Inshore anglers had great red drum fishing. Limits of keepers and over slot releases kept anglers busy. Some speckled trout were caught and clamming was excellent. Two sailfish were released offshore. The blackfin tuna bite was good. Dolphin fishing was also good with many gaffers coming aboard. Some Wahoo were caught as well.
Virginia
The billfish bite continues as bluewater boats also take nice catches of dolphin and wahoo. There are lots of nice Spanish and blues off the beaches. In the bay, flounder are hit or miss and cobia are leaving their favorite summer haunts. The rivers are giving up good catches of spot and croaker. Lots of puppies and speckled trout are in the shallows and inlets on both sides of the Chesapeake.
At Chincoteague, sea trout, taylor blues, sea mullet and flounder are still available inside the inlet. The surf off Assateague Island holds sea mullet, sea trout, striped bass, small sharks, taylor blues and a few spot.
