Chris Bait & Tackle at Kiptopeke says the cobia haven’t left the building. They’re still hanging near buoys and sight casters can enjoy late season catch and Release fishing for cobia to 60 pounds. Red drum are off Buoy 36A and will hit bunker late in the day. Spadefish are concentrated at the 4th Island along the CBBT as well as at the Planation Lights. Lots of specks are showing up in the bayside creeks. Grey trout are plentiful out of Oyster and near the concrete ships.
Rappahannock River
Good bottom fishing for spot and croaker in the Rapp. Spanish mackerel and blues are at the mouth of the river.
Virginia Piers
Lynnhaven Pier reported lots of spot and some huge croakers to nearly three pounds. Speckled trout provide lots of nighttime action.
Virginia Beach Pier anglers are enjoying good spot and croaker fishing throughout day. Puppy drum and occasional schools of taylor bluefish are also biting.
Sandbridge Pier reports spot, puppies and some nice croakers to two pounds.
Virginia Offshore
Billfish remain at the top of the list as white marlin releases improve Blue marlin, sailfish, spearfish, and even swordfish are available. Bigeye tuna, yellowfins, wahoo and gaffer dolphin are cooperating with bluewater boats.
Nags Head
TW’s reports:
Surf fishing is good for small drum, pompano, sea mullet, trout and bluefish. Fishing is also good on the south side of the Oregon Inlet bridge, with, anglers catching a few keeper puppy drum, some nice bluefish and trout.
Sound Fishing: The Little Bridge on the Nags Head/Manteo causeway reported small trout and small drum.
Pier Fishing: Avalon Pier reported false albacore, bluefish, puppy drum and blow toads.
Nags Head: Blues, Spanish and albacore.
Jennette’s: Bluefish, false albacore and pompano.
Outer Banks: Sea mullet, blues, Spanish, small drum, pompano and albacore.
Nearshore anglers caught Spanish, blues and albacore. Open boats fishing close to shore decked sheepshead, bluefish, sharks, albacore and speckle trout. The headboat caught spot, sea robins, puffers, gray trout, bluefish, sea mullet and flounder.
The offshore fleet is catching some mammoth yellowfin tuna ranging to 76 lbs. Blackfin, wahoo, limits of dolphin and many white marlin releases were also reported
Hatteras Surf
On Tuesday, Red Drum noted that the water was full of bait. The morning bite included a few Spanish and bluefish on the Point. Ramp 55 had pompano. The Point had some Spanish and blues that evening.
The water was beautiful on Wednesday with Spanish and blues beached in the morning. The Hook had a few sea mullet and pompano. There were a few under-size drum and one 33-inch drum caught on the Point in the afternoon. Avon had puppy drum, sea mullet and spot. Ramp 55 had pompano and sea mullet with some under size founder.
Hatteras Offshore
Spanish Mackerel fishing was excellent for inshore and nearshore anglers all day Wednesday. Dolphin fishing was good and wahoo catches were scattered. Tuna fishing was good with some limits of yellowfin and good catches of blackfins. One boat released a blue marlin and a sailfish.
