We had some shrimp cocktail as an appetizer recently, and the shrimp were out of sight. Succulent, juicy, delicious. They tasted like they just came from the nets of a shrimp trawler out of Wanchese, North Carolina. Turns out, they were from Food Lion – extra-large, fully-cooked shrimp, about 26-30 per pound.
I have had good luck before with Food Lion shrimp. On several occasions, I have bought uncooked frozen shrimp to take on saltwater fishing trips and I have noticed that their shrimp is firmer and stays on the hook longer. A sign of good quality.
I don’t know what Food Lion does with their shrimp to make them so tasty, but they do it right. I expect the secret is to prepare and freeze the freshly caught shrimp quickly so they maintain their freshness.
The holiday season is fast approaching with open house gatherings and get-togethers. If you want to make a big hit with appetizers, stop by Food Lion and stock up on their extra-large, fully-cooked shrimp. You won’t be disappointed.
