Anytime I’m at a fair or a carnival, the first thing I do is check out the stands with Corn Dogs. I ate my first one at the West Virginia State Fair in August 1955 and I’ve been hooked ever since. The sweet cornbread crust, the juicy hot dog inside and slathered in mustard? I could eat a half dozen.
Recently, at Aldi’s – where I practically camp out these days – I saw a package of Bremer Corn Dogs in the frozen meat section. They come six to a box and can be oven-fried or deep-fried.
So far, I have been super impressed by the quality of Aldi’s private brands, so I put a package in my grocery cart.
Last week, for lunch, I couldn’t resist the temptation and popped a couple of the corn dogs in my little air fryer for about 15/16 minutes. They were golden brown on the outside and piping hot on the inside, and I are everything but the stick. A little more mustard and I might have eaten that as well.
They were almost – almost as good as State Fair Corn Dogs. I was particularly impressed by the sweetness of the honey flavored, crunchy batter and the ‘dogs were good, too.
Next time you get a hankering for a piping hot corn dog – State Fair-style – stop by Aldi’s and pick up a package of Bremer Corn Dogs.
