“Just like individual consumers have felt the pinch, so have we. We have seen increases in all our expenses, not just in the cost of product. With low profit margins in the grocery business, it makes it extremely hard for independent grocery stores like us to operate and make ends meet. This leads to difficult decisions. We have focused on keeping our fresh meat and produce departments well stocked since they tend to be what draws in customer the most and more importantly to ensure that our employees continue to get paid. Please know that we are working diligently on getting grocery, dairy, and frozen items back in so that we can better service our customers. We hope to have this issue resolved soon. Thanks for your support.
We are not closing. Please hang in there with us!”

Friends and neighbors, Reid’s needs our help. More specifically, they need us to stop by and make a few purchases – maybe a chuck roast, or a pork loin. Maybe a few steaks, or some fresh fruit and veggies. It’s important to our community that this Charlottesville institution remains in business.
For one thing, it’s the only grocery store within several miles for many who live in that area. They are also our neighbors, and neighbors help neighbors.
Grocery stores don’t make a lot of profit as it is and now with spiraling wages, rampant theft, the usual spoilage of fresh foods and overwhelming competition from the mega stores, it’s a small miracle that Reid’s still exists.
But they do and they’re not going down without a fight.
The consensus is their meats are the best in town – produce, too. Every time you are in that neighborhood, stop in and pay them a visit.
