We decided to pick up a couple subs and dine in our car before last week’s Pentatonix Concert (which was sensational, by the way. They did all their great Christmas hits.)
So, where to go? Who has the best subs in town? We enjoy Vocelli’s and – believe it or not – WaWa makes some great subs. But for my money, I’ll take a foot long Subway sub over all the rest.
Subway – the chain – has been around for a while. It all started in 1965 when Fred DeLuca borrowed $1,000 from a friend to start “Pete’s Drive-In: Super Submarines†in Bridgeport Connecticut. The venture did well enough to pay for DeLuca’s tuition for medical school as well as to earn his doctorate in Physics. DeLuca was a smart guy. In 1968, the name was changed to Subway, which now has nearly 21,000 locations.
Subway was one of the first to operate in-store locations in super stores and has now surpassed the number of McDonald’s in Wal-Mart stores.
I enjoy Subway because of the great variety, the fresh bread (baked daily) and meats piled high.
We tried subs at Jersey Mike’s once and their sandwiches were mostly lettuce – hardly enough meat to taste. But Subway is generous with their meats plus any other condiments you choose. They are made fresh to order. I particularly like their Subway Clubs with turkey, ham, and roast beef.
Anyway, we enjoyed the subs for dinner, and we thoroughly enjoyed the Pentatonix. If you ever have the chance to see this great A Capella group, don’t miss that opportunity. And remember Subway the next time you’re hungry for a great sandwich.
