Trout are mostly in the shallower areas of the tributaries, where there’s grass flats. They love live shrimp, so if you can get some, use them as bait. The spot have turned on in the bay and tributaries with fish running larger than usual. The Rappahannock near the Rt. 1 Bridge at Whitestone has been very productive. First-Ever Virginia Record Saugeye
Virginia now has an official State Record Saugeye. Mike Miller used a crankbait to net the 6-pounder on the Staunton River. The record fish measured 26.25-inches long, with a 14-inch girth at Bobcat’s Bait and Tackle in Clarksville, Va. It was an excellent week for mackerel fishing in the bay and along the Virginia Beach Coast. Charter boats were raking in the Spanish and the kings are also beginning to show. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel is now a hotspot for flounder fishing. You can use bucktails with a Gulp to entice them.
