Damn! My bluebirds are nesting again. They started early in April and fledged four babies, then they were at it again in May and added three more little puffs of blue to the world, and now the hen is on the nest again.
Only once have I had bluebirds build three nests, and that was because the second nest failed that summer.
I hate to see the birds in those hot boxes in the intense heat, but if all goes well, the little ones will fledge in mid-July, so that’s not too bad.
Last week, I ordered another 10,000 meal worms from Fluker Farms (a great resource) and that should get us through the third, and hopefully final nest.
The mother and father bluebirds have certainly worked their little tail feathers off for the past three months. They need a vacation. So do I.
