Recently, I have been buying pants with expandable waistlines. That’s because my pants are never sure which waistline is which. Is it the waistline right under the armpits – where Grandpa Brewer wore his trousers? Or is it the waistline right above the butt crack. Like my plumber.
If it’s the one in the middle, then my pants never stay there. As soon as I bend, squat or stretch, the pants head downhill. But recently, I have discovered suspenders. Suspenders grab a hold of your trousers and don’t let go. Therefore, your pants stay – more or less – where they should.
But.
There’s a problem with suspenders. Most clip on the waist where they are subjected to huge stress, which usually causes one or more of the clips to release and you hear the “sproing” sound, letting you know that the suspenders have let you – and your pants – down.
But.
I recently saw an ad for suspenders that don’t clip to your waist but rather attach to your belt loops with four snap clips. Once you snap them in place, they can’t come undone. Brilliant.
I tried out my new suspenders at Church last Sunday and they work like a charm. I gave them a thorough workout, and they stayed on the job.
Suspenders look sort of dorky, but they keep your pants where you want them.
