Super Good Asparagus
It’s asparagus season, an early spring vegetable. I saw some beautiful asparagus in Kroger’s recently for 99-cents a pound. It is often 2.99 and sometimes even 3.99 a pound, so I bought a bundle. Asparagus is fairly easy to cook, you can even eat it raw, like celery. We have had bluebirds nesting in our backyard every year (except one) for the past 15 years. The South River Fly Shop reports that the South River in Waynesboro has been fishing well for the past two weeks with some great Smoky Sedge Caddis hatches in the late mornings. Shad are making their move into Virginia freshwater. The herring, hickory shad, white perch and striped bass are now in the waters above Key Bridge in DC. Shad and herring have also arrived on the Rappahannock River at the U.S. Route 1 Bridge in Fredericksburg, with good concentrations of shad under the bridge and upstream in the rapids.
