Hot summer weather? Bring it on, say my four tomato vines. They have survived the 90-degree afternoons and have actually picked up steam. I am now gathering tomatoes every day. I have two vines that are pounding out smaller tomatoes, about the size of a tangerine, and I have yet to find a single blemish and – so far – no critters have pecked away and ruined my fruits. I also have a cherry-type tomato vine that produced well early but is now rebooting for a second picking. Finally, I have an unknown vine that just produced 6 of the fattest, loveliest tomatoes you have ever seen, and the vine is still producing.
The weather has apparently been ideal for tomatoes. In past years, I have had some end rot and a few bursting tomatoes, but this year, almost everyone is State Fair-worthy, and it looks like I will be getting fresh tomatoes though September.
Since Nancy’s above-ground garden began producing in May, we will have enjoyed almost a half-year of fresh tomatoes.
Wow!
