If you have been waiting to make a road trip to Nags Head, now is the time. The stripers in the sound behind Nags Head are plentiful and they’re biting.
Says Capt. Reese Stecher, a Nags Head Fishing Guide, “It’s not quite like the old days, but almost as good. The fish are all over the sound.”
Reese said he and a client recently caught a limit of keepers in about 15 minutes. It was almost every cast, and that’s the fun part, anglers are casting with light tackle, not simply trolling and letting the boat do the work.
The limit for stripers in the North Carolina sounds is three per person, minimum 18-inches. Reese says they are catching some fish up to 22-inches. This fishing should be very strong until the first, bitter cold snap, possibly all the way till the end of the calendar year.
“Striper fishing in the sound has turned on just like it did last year,” Reese noted. “It just started a few days ago. We caught them trolling, jigging, and even on top water. There are lots of keeper fish.”
