If you’re on a diet, this is a road trip you may not want to take. That’s because Yoder’s Country Market in Madison has the most incredible homemade pies, cakes and goodies you’d ever want to put in your mouth. But they also have lots of healthy foods, and gifts as well.
Yoder’s recently moved to a larger, more convenient location at 2105 S. Seminole Trail in Madison, Setting the store apart from all others is their homemade baked goods. Six Mennonite bakers supply Yoder’s with a variety of breads, pies, cakes, and cookies, all made from scratch, without preservatives, and baked at home in state-inspected kitchens. And you better come early if you want fresh baked goods. When they sell out – as they often do – there is no more till the next day.
Yoder’s Country Market specializes in bulk food. In order to provide customers with the best quality at the best price, Yoder’s buys their products in large quantities from over 50 different suppliers.
Most of items come in 50-lb. bags or in 25-lb. boxes. They then repackage the goods into clear plastic bags of various sizes to meet the needs of their customers.
Yoder’s Country Market also offers a great selection of all-natural meats from local growers. Their organic, gluten-free and sugar-free sections continue to expand.
Yoder’s Country Market began in 1984 when Owen and Erma Yoder put shelves in their tiny 7′ x 11′ utility room, hung up a sign saying “Yoder’s Bulk Foods” and began selling cheese, baking supplies, spices, nuts, and fruits. One taste of product was all it took to bring customers back, time and time again, and through word of mouth, Yoder’s has grown and prospered.
Yoder’s is a 25-mile trip from Charlottesville, but don’t go on Sundays. They’re closed, naturally. The store hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30am – 6:00pm and Saturday from 7:30am to 5:00pm. Call them at (540) 948-3000 or go to yoderscountrymarket.net for more information.
