There were so many cars backed up on Rt. 151 that Critzer Family Farm in Nelson County had to open their gates a half-hour early. Folks had come early and were lined up to pick strawberries. Nancy and I came to gather enough berries to make her world-famous Strawberry Jam and we worried that all those folks ahead of us would mow down all the strawberries before we got there. But not to worry, the farm hands at Critzer’s had done the work for us. We paid a little more for pre-picked strawberries and we eagerly grabbed a couple of 2-pound bags of frozen strawberries that had been freshly picked, trimmed, and cleaned. Nancy job at the canning station would be much easier.
This was my first visit to Critzer’s and what a wonderful, friendly operation!
They have acres of farmland and strawberry fields, and they say we should have another 4 weeks of great berry picking in this, one of the best strawberry seasons ever. Conditions have been ideal. Even in my little garden, the strawberry plants are standing tall and proud, and the vines are laden.
