Like Lazarus coming forth from the tomb, our goldfish have emerged from the depths of our little pond after a winter hibernation and are now most active.
Quickly, I took an inventory and discovered that we lost 5 of our 7 large goldfish (I suspect a raccoon raid), but the little ones born in the pond last summer all seem present and accounted for – but I’m not really sure. I can’t get them to hold still long enough for a group picture. Nonetheless, these are definitely little Presbyterian goldfish and as such, they deserve their Christian names.
Naming goldfish is not easy. It’s like naming penguins.
“Let’s see, your penguin name must “Black Head” and you must be “White Tummy” and I’m not sure about the other 3,000.”
But I have named my goldfish as best I can.
There is Longtail and Goldie – the two big ones. There are 3 Boston Blackies – almost solid black and two Multi Taskings (they are mixed colors). And there is Teenchy Tiny, the baby, and Pinky and White Top and about 6 penguin-looking goldfish – all exactly the same. I may need name tags for these fellows. As they progress and undergo changes, I will continue naming names as best I can.
It’s the Presbyterian thing to do.
