Rarely do Nancy and I go to Bonefish without ordering a platter of Bang Bang Shrimp. Sometimes we’ll get two orders and eat the shrimp as an entrée, then pair it with a salad or crab cake. But no question, Bang Bang Shrimp has a lot of bang for the buck and the flavor is delightful.
Recently, I was trying to squeeze some seafood into our weekly menu and found some Jumbo Shrimp on sale. Why not make my own version of Bang Bang Shrimp, I thought, and so I did.
I wanted to cook the shrimp on “The Barbie” as the Aussies say, but it was raining, so I steamed the shrimp with a little help from Mr. Old Bay Seasoning.
The secret to Bang Bang Shrimp is not the shrimp, it’s the sauce, and it’s easy as sin to make.
I mixed a half cup mayonnaise with a quarter cup sweet Thai Chili Sauce, 2 T lime juice, 2 T honey and about 5 squirts of Texas Pete. Mix well, chill for an hour or so and either dress the shrimp with sauce and serve over lettuce or use it for a dipping sauce. Yummm!
