I usually start a few plants for my garden indoors and from seeds, even though I have better luck with mature plants from a quality greenhouse. But I am going to try spaghetti squash this year which you usually don’t see in pots, and I bought some seeds. I also generally use plain old potting mix for my base, but I saw an interesting product at Lowe’s – Jiffy Seed Starting Mix. What caught my attention is that it is a blend of several important ingredients – peat moss for natural balance, coconut fiber for good drainage, lime for pH balance and vermiculite for moisture retention.
Instructions call for filling Jiffy Pots with the mix, then dampen with water, place 2 or 3 seeds in the pots, put in a warm place, keep watered and hope.
I’ll let you know how it all works out.
