We go through Ziplocs at our house like Taylor Swift does boyfriends. Sometimes we’ll put old Ziplocs in new ones. Not really, but we use a lot of these convenient little storage bags.
Since Charlottesville imposed a nickel tax on those little brown bags you get at grocery stores, our Ziploc usage has increased. I hated those bags for groceries, but they were often handy for storage of certain items and for disposal of odds and ends.
Recently. I was going to toss a plastic bag that had once housed some Thomas English Muffins, but it was a sturdy bag and clean, so I saved it. Later, I used it to store some okra from the garden. Since then, I have been saving some of the bread bags and other plastics and they come in handy.
We used to have a “Bag Lady” that hung on the doorknob in the kitchen where we stuffed savable plastics, but she finally wore out, so I bought another one, and it’s now full of useful plastic bags.
I am not a tree hugger, but I see no reason to waste products that are easily recyclable. And best of all, we are not using nearly as many Ziplocs as we once did.
