My lawnmower was on its last leg, wheel, actually. The back right wheel was cracked and about to come loose and there was no way to repair it. It was a terrific Sears lawnmower. I had it for ten or 12 years. It cranked every time. But I needed a new one.
My kids found out and chipped in to give me one for Christmas. It’s a EGO electric lawnmower.
I used it yesterday for the first time (I had to wait until my grandson James showed me how to put it together and figure out the battery stuff.)
I like it a lot. It’s very quiet and extremely light. It’s not self-propelled, but it’s so light that once you get the momentum going, it almost – almost – pushes itself.
The good news is that I won’t ever have to worry about whether I have any gas in the gas tank in the shed. The bad news is that I now have to worry if the battery has enough power to finish the job.
The instructions say I can get about an hour out of it before the battery needs charging, but I usually do the grass in two stages – front, then back – and rarely all in one day. So if I charge the battery after each use (as they suggest) I shouldn’t have a problem.
But I’m going to keep my old lawnmower with the floppy wheel, just to be safe.
