I made a drive down to Eltzroth & Thompson last Sunday because I figured they were the only nursey in town that carried Abraham Lincoln Tomatoes. I was right. They had ‘em and I bought ‘em. This variety is unbelievably productive, beginning in mid-summer and continuing till the first frost. Three or four plants will keep you in fresh tomatoes for up to four months.
Eltzroth & Thompson isn’t really that far, about 4 miles south of I-64 Interchange, and it’s a great place to buy plants, seeds and gardening accessories. In many cases, E & T grows their own flowers, shrubs, trees and vegetables in their custom greenhouses.
A local business since 1971, prices are always competitive, their selection excellent and they offer unbeatable customer service.
Founders, Dan. And Carol Eltzroth. Have. Developed the nursery to include 5 growing areas and 11 warmed greenhouses. E & T is located at 1686 Monacan Trail in. Charlotteville. Their hours (open Sundays) are from 8:30 to 5. Call them at (434) 295-2488 or go to eandtgreenhouses.com
Below is a spring gardening tip from Eltzroth & Thompson
Throwing eggshells in the same hole that you will be planting your vegetables in help your plants fend off “blossom end rot” which is the leading cause of calcium deficiency. Grinding the eggshells will aide in breaking down and absorbing into your garden soil.
