Our foursome was trying to figure out which course to play in order to take advantage of a beautiful day this week and Tanyard Country Club in Louisa won out. It was a great choice. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen Tanyard in such good condition. Like most courses this time of year, the greens were being aerated, but they were in great shape grass-wise. The fairways were filling in nicely and the rough was starting to really shape up.
Tanyard is a hidden gem for golfers in Central Virginia. The course is fun to play, with lots of doglegs and narrow fairways. Position is as important as length. Not long, at 5,747 from the white tees, Tanyard is target golf at its best.
It’s also a most economical course, taking VSGA Cards any day after 1 PM and any time on weekdays. Our round, with a cart, cost us each $26.
The course is under new ownership, and the owners have invested needed funds to get the course in top shape. The old country club is now dormant. If there is anyone out there who would want to open a fully equipped restaurant with a built-in clientele, the country club would no doubt welcome offers.
If you’ve never played Tanyard, now is the time.
