One of the knocks against golf these days is that it’s expensive. It can be, but it doesn’t have to be. My golfing Amigos and I have been wearing out our VSGA VIP cards, making the game a lot less expensive and a lot more fun since we’re playing lots of different courses.
A VIP basically allows a golfer to have free greens fees with a cart rental. Looking back over 2017, I have used my Virginia State Golf Association VIP Card 7 times at Meadowcreek, 6 times at Lake Monticello, 4 times at Tanyard, 3 times at Old Trail, twice at Ingleside, once at Waynesboro Country Club and 5 times at Greene Hills. My cost for each of those rounds was about $26 – about the cost of two movie tickets and the card set me back just $65.
The new 2018 VSGA cards are out (what a neat Christmas present for a golfer!) and they have added even more opportunities to save money. New for 2018 are Cedars Country Club, Colonial Hills Golf Club, Eastern Shore Yacht & Country Club, Rapidan Golf Club, Sly Fox Golf Club, Tanglewood Shores Golf & Country Club, and The Golf Club at the Highlands, as well as Capon Springs and Farms (WV) and Creekside Golf Course (WV).
Cardholders will enjoy VIP pricing at more than 200 participating courses in Virginia and West Virginia while supporting college scholarships. To date, more than $2.2 million in scholarships have been awarded to students with an interest in golf.
Also new this year is the “Digital Only” version. Cardholders will be able to redeem offers directly through the MyVSGA app. Two years ago, I misplaced my booklet and had to order another one (at a reduced cost, but I still had to pay extra). No more lost booklets with the Digital Only version.
