Kevin Mann and I took advantage of a 76 degree February afternoon this week to shake off a little golf rust and get in a round at Lake Monticello.
The pro, Mark Marshall, gave us the bad news right away – Cart Paths Only – because of all the rain recently. It’s a good thing we didn’t try to get on some of the fairways or we would have sunk the cart. Boy, is it wet out there.
But other being quite soggy, the pristine course was in excellent shape for February, especially the greens. The fairways will start to fill out in a few short weeks with a little hot sun behind all the rain.
If you’ve not been in a while, the new clubhouse and golf facility is now complete at Lake Monticello and they have an excellent set up for food with a beautiful “Pub” restaurant inside and a terrace for outdoor dining overlooking a lake. They have a fully stocked bar, offer an assortment of grill food and it would be an ideal spot to join wives or friends for drinks and dinner after a round.
For Kevin and me, it was just nice to get out and swat a few balls. Kevin is practicing up for a spring trip to Myrtle Beach and this will likely be my last chance before I sail to Hawaii and play a round on an oceanside course in the Aloha State.
Time to get out and play a little, fellow golfers. The Masters is but 6 weeks away.
