Our daughter, Laura, treated us to a wonderful experience at Ten Sushi, a Modern Japanese-style Tapas Restaurant on the Downtown Mall and it was delightful.
When I think of Sushi, I think of raw fish. Some I can eat but generally I’d rather have my fish cooked. At Ten Sushi, you can have it both ways, and everything I ate was delicious. The Tapas-style restaurant is a place to bring friends and enjoy a wide variety of dishes – a little of this and a little of that – and you won’t leave hungry.
For a starter we had a huge bowl of salad – one of the best I’ve ever had. We each served ourselves from the large bowl of Crispy Field Greens with Radishes, Cucumbers, Pine Nuts and a spectacular Ginger Dressing. The dressing was so good, I would have gladly bought a pint and brought it home.
Then we had Tempura Tiger Shrimp, Chicken Skewers, Sea Bass, Soft Shell Crab Rolls, and a half dozen other delicacies. Laura had some raw fish which she enjoys but everything I ate had been steamed or cooked.
For dessert, we polished off a bowl of Warm Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream, Matcha Powder and Chocolate Crumbles
Master Chef Pei Jen Chang certainly knows his stuff and is known to source ingredients from the finest local, regional, and international sea and farm purveyors, and strives to offer fare that will appeal to the gamut of culinary palates.
The meaning of the Japanese word ‘Ten’ is ‘heaven’ or ‘celebration’, and I will admit we had a heavenly’ experience worth celebrating. Ten Sushi is located at 120 East Main Street, a couple blocks down from Timberlake’s and is in a walk-up location. You will need reservations. On a Tuesday night, it was packed. Call them at 434 295 6691 or go to  info@ten-sushi.com.
I highly recommend Ten Sushi as a great place to “Eat Out.â€
