Nancy and I just returned from the lighting show at the Dallas Trade Mart where we saw some amazing lighting styles now coming on the market. During our annual visit to the Big D each January, we try to take in some of their great restaurants. Each trip, we go to Pappadeaux’s and eat raw oysters, fried shrimp and fresh seafood. It’s one of our favorite restaurants anywhere. This year, we added what will become a new favorite. Karen Engel, our Kichler Lighting representative, took us to a downtown establishment called Ravenna’s. A friend had recommended it to her and now I recommend it to everyone – it’s a fabulous Italian restaurant.
Ravenna’s specializes in authentic regional Italian food featuring fresh ingredients and masterful preparation. A casual, yet upscale atmosphere makes it ideal for dining with family, friends, clients and business associates and their prices are most reasonable.
Faced with dozens of great choices on the menu, I ordered the Salmon Portafino, a pistachio crusted salmon on a bed of baby spinach, drizzled with a citrus honey and balsamic glaze and topped with grilled shrimp. It was the best salmon, by far, I’ve ever had. The salmon itself was incredibly light in texture, almost melting in your mouth. The glaze was divine. Nancy had Clam Linguine and Karen and Jennifer had a Manicotti. The entire evening was a delightful culinary experience.
Ravenna’s is in Downtown Dallas, near most of the hotels, located at 1301 Main Street. On most evenings, they are open until 2 AM. If in Dallas, try Ravenna’s. Reservations are usually required. Call them at (214) 744-9333.
