We had played a round at Heritage Oaks Golf Course in Harrisonburg and were headed back across the mountain. I suggested we stop and eat at Log Cabin, a barbeque restaurant in Elkton, not far from the entrance to Massanutten. I had eaten there before on several occasions and found the food very good – not as good as Lexington Barbeque, of course, but still good barbeque
The restaurant was serving both indoors and outside, and they were paying strict attention to social distancing and the various parties were well separated. We ate inside.
The menu is not extensive, – Beef and Pulled Pork BBQ, St. Louis Ribs, Smoked Sausage, Chicken Tenders and a sandwich or two. I think Greg had beef barbeque and Byron had a BBQ sandwich while Kevin and I had a barbeque platter – North Carolina style. The barbeque was excellent and they nailed the Carolina sauce. The fries were hot and crispy and the cole slaw was very good, a perfect complement to the BBQ. The hush puppies, Kevin said, were a little disappointing. But the best things we had all night were the Fried Pickles as an appetizer. I could have made a meal on them. They were perfectly fried and breaded and simply delicious.
This is not a pretentious place and they don’t serve alcohol. We were looking forward to a cold beer after a warm day playing golf, but the iced tea hit the spot.
Our waitress was prompt and very friendly. She brought us each several large cups of tea and she constantly checked on us to make sure everything was satisfactory.
The Log Cabin Restaurant is located on Rt. 33 between Elkton and McGaheysville. The service was fast, the food was good and the prices fair. I definitely recommend that you stop there for some good BBQ, but be sure to order Carolina style.
