Cinco de Mayo is coming soon. That’s when people that don’t even like Mexican food pretend that they do and wash it down with a Margarita. I like Mexican food, mostly, and I always like a good Margarita. When I think good Mexican food, I think El Agave in Ruckersville.
I’m not the greatest one to write a review about Mexican restaurants. When we go, my wife Nancy often has to interpret the menu.
“Tell me one more time the difference between a fajita and a tamale?”
But I know what I like, and I enjoy El Agave Restaurant in Ruckersville. Many say it’s as close to authentic Mexican cuisine as it gets in this area. My sister, Johanna, who lives in Houston and loves real Tex-Mex fare, likes to go to El Agave when she’s visiting.
From my past visits, I can tell you that the servings are large, the prices are most reasonable, and the service is super-fast. It’s like they know what you’re going to order before you get out of the car.
El Agave has a huge menu, and their specials are really special – Lunch Specials starting at $6.50 and dinner for $8.50, They also have Margarita Specials – a regular glass for $5.65 and a Jumbo for $7.25. On Wednesdays and Thursdays, you can buy certain beers for $2.25 during happy hour!
It’s also hard to go wrong with their El Agave Special, which includes one Tamale, two Taquitos Mexicano’s (chicken and beef), one Nacho Chip with Beans, one with Chicken, one with Rice, one with Beef and Cheese on all four. It’s served with lettuce, sour cream, guacamole, and tomatoes.
Their Grande Special includes one each of Calupa, Chile Relleno, Enchilada, Beef Taco and Burrito served with Mexican Beans and Rice – and just $13.49.
El Agave is located at 8694 Seminole Trail, Ruckersville – about a mile south of the Rt. 29 /33 intersection. Call them at 434-990-9500.
Cinco de Mayo? Why not celebrate at El Agave?
You can certainly eat and drink a bunch here for not very many “pesos”.
