Years ago, there was a Bojangles’ restaurant in Charlottesville beside Hardy’s at the corner of Rio and 29 North. My eldest daughter, Angelin, practically camped out in their Drive-Thru lane. She was addicted to their biscuits. For some reason, that store didn’t survive and closed a few years later. About a year ago, Bojangles’ opened another restaurant across from Forest Lakes, and it seems to be doing well. Sunday night, we decided to give it a try.
Three things stand out at Bojangles’ – the Biscuits, the Fried Chicken and the Dirty Rice. I simply love their Dirty Rice, a nice change of pace from an order of fries. It’s a spicy dish, as are most of the items on their menu, but not overly so. And Angelin was right, Bojangles’ easily has the best biscuits on the market. They are fluffy and rich (I think they are made with lard) and are a perfect complement to their Fried Chicken. Bo’s chicken is a lot spicier than the competition, but that’s how southerners like it, with a little heat.
Bojangles’ was founded in Charlotte, NC in 1977 and is still based there. They have over 600 outlets with restaurants in 11 states and the District of Columbia.
Bojangles’ may not have the best chicken in Cville, but it’s right up there. When we picked up our take-out order, the chicken was hot and crispy and hadn’t been sitting under a warmer for several hours. It was very good, and the biscuits, of course, were great. Bojangles’ offers a number of tasty fixin’s including Spicy Green Beans, Cajun Pinto Beans (also very good), Cole Slaw, Mac n Cheese, Dirty Rice, Mashed Potatoes and Gravy, French Fries and Bo-Tato Rounds.
It was a positive experience and we’ll be back.
