Throughout this year, and for nearly 100 years, the Charlottesville Municipal Band has provided free concerts and entertainment for the public. But last year, the Charlottesville City Council decided not to help fund the band, declining their support of what had been $50,000 per year. Losing that much revenue and continuing to operate is a daunting task, but the Band has shifted venues to save costs and they now are asking for the public’s support.
Steve Layman, Music Director for the Band, recently announced a special Benefit Performance for the preservation of the Charlottesville Municipal Band.
“Come celebrate and support a treasured community music tradition that has been part of Charlottesville’s thriving arts culture for nearly 100 years,” Steve requests.
The Save The Date performance will be Tuesday, November 1 at the Paramount Theater at 8 PM. Tickets are $50 and there are also sponsorship opportunities.
