Deborah Gillespie from Bluefield says there is an event coming to Blacksburg that all should consider – The Mount Tabor Ruritan May Fish Fry with Music by Indian Run String Band. The initial event is set for Saturday May 13 from 7 to 5 to 7 PM at Slusser’s Chapel, sponsored by the Indian Run Stringband and the Mount Tabor Ruritan Club. Deborah says that around 300 attend the event weekly.
“They fry codfish in huge round trays suspended by chains that they lower in oil to fry. These old timers know exactly how long to deep fry to perfection,” Deborah said. “The music varies each month. We have been when a steel drum band has played.”
This is an all-you-can-eat Fish, Fries, Slaw, Homemade Desserts, and Beverage dinner. The event is a fundraiser for Ruritan Club’s community service projects. The cost is only $8.00 for adults and $5 for kids 3 to 12. Children under 3 are admitted free. Carryout pales are $8.
The Indian Run Stringband from Blacksburg, VA plays fiddle and banjo foot stomping dance tunes and sings traditional songs with old time harmonies perfect for dancing the two-step.
From dance tunes to the blues, the Indian Run Stringband plays with love and abandon. They make old-time music fresh and new.
The event is held rain or shine under the Picnic Shelter below the lower church parking lot. Slusser’s Chapel is located at 1543 Mount Tabor Road in Blacksburg, VA.
