The cottage on the Greenbrier was magnificent and we spent much of our time on the spacious porch overlooking the river. It was a perfect place for our rendezvous except for one problem – there were three of us and only two bedrooms.
I was not concerned – at first. There was a spacious couch in the living room, and I take some of my best naps on couches. So, I brought sheets, a blanket and a fluffy pillow and sacked out in the living room.
I quickly dozed off to sleep, but then came the wakeup call. When you share a cottage with two other guys who grew up listening to Buddy Holly, there will be multiple trips to the bathroom and my sleep sofa was in its direct path. There was more traffic beside and around my sleeping quarters than on the Downtown Mall on a Saturday night with a hot show at the Paramount.
I made my usual one visit, but these guys were pissers extraordinaire, and I got maybe two hours – maybe – of sleep.
It’s good to connect with really old friends, but if it happens, by all means stay out of the direct line to the bathroom.
