We have a pet parakeet named Foster, a rescue bird. We got Foster 4 or 5 years ago to keep our younger parakeet, Snowbird, company. Foster was an older bird at the time, but she outlived Snowbird and is still alive and kicking.
However, about 6 weeks ago, we noticed a growth on her lower back, just above her tail feathers. It was gross. I called it a warble, and it continued to grow.
On the internet, it described the growth as a tumor, somewhat common in older birds. Many tumors are malignant while some are benign. A malignant tumor usually is fatal to parakeets. We watched the tumor grow to about the size of a great northern bean, but Foster showed no ill effects. Both Nancy and I prayed for our pet. My prayer was that Foster would not suffer.
Not only did Foster not suffer, but last week while I was reading my paper, I heard a “thump” in Foster’s cage. Upon further inspection, it was the warble. It just fell off.
Prayer works. Even for parakeets and it confirmed my belief that Heaven will be filled with birds.
