Belize? Now we’re talking. Low country, pearl white beaches, pure tropical beauty. The Hilton Head Island of the Caribbean.
Hundreds of islands guard the nation of Belize on the eastern coast of Central America, with Caribbean Sea shorelines to the east and dense jungles to the west.
The jungles of Belize were homes to the Mayans – early terrorists. It seems that everywhere the Mayans went, they left in ruins.
Belize is home to about 400,000 residents, not a few of which are wealthy Americans who have retired here and who could blame them?
While eating breakfast a huge manatee bobbed to the surface, welcomed us to his tropical paradise, said hello and disappeared. What a place!
Now, what to do? Nancy had said that I could choose which excursion we would take in Belize and my choices were many.
We could lay on the beach and endure 1st degree sunburns.

We could rent Jet Skis and crash through the Caribbean waves.
XX
We could go parasailing.

That left two choices – visit the Mayan Ruins or a Deep-Sea Fishing Trip off the coast.
Hmmm. Two tough choices. What would it be?
Ruins – fishing. Ruins – fishing.
I chose fishing. If I wanted to see ruins I would have gone to San Francisco.
I don’t think the fishing trip would have been Nancy’s first choice, but she reluctantly agreed, and we had a blast. She caught a pile of fish. Everyone aboard caught fish and had a great time. We went about two miles offshore in a 32-foot center console, dropped anchor in 35 feet of inky blue water and caught fish two at a time. We caught Lane Snappers, Yellowtail Snappers, Jacks, Grunts, Catfish, and a few other unidentified species. Most were small and throwbacks, but we put about a dozen in the live well which were later donated to the local children’s home.
I caught the smallest fish and largest, but Nancy caught the most. We saw interesting sea birds, another manatee, took in the southeast breezes and marveled at the unending beauty along the coast.
That night we had another enjoyable meal, watched a group duplicate the amazing Beetles music and went to bed exhausted from a wonderful day.
I Belize I would come here again.
