Letters, We Get Letters
We get lots and lots of letters
Dear, Perry, would you be so kind
To fill a request and sing the songs we love best
Geezers will recognize the lyrics above as a theme song for the Perry Como Show where he sang requested songs. Perry got lots and lots of letters, but us? Not so much.
Recently, there has been a rash of thievery, mostly checks for bills. The scam is to whitewash the name of the payee and the amount, add a fictitious name and amount and steal from those trying to pay their bills. Plus, lots of people mailing checks have been losing them in the mail. They’re not just late, they never show up.
This brings up a disturbing fact. The thievery almost has to be coming from within the United States Postal Service because others do not have access to mailed checks in transit.
The USPS is a monopoly. They have no competition and can charge whatever they wish, yet they lose $10 billion a year. That’s billion with a “B”. Which begs a question. Why would anyone with a sound mind want the government to run anything? We can easily identify waste and fraud in the Post Office because they lose or steal our mail. Other government agencies simply hide their waste and inefficiency.
If you must send a check by mail, do not have the check showing through the window or it is subject to theft and your payment may not make it to the intended, and you may find yourself short a lot of money.
After COVID, the Post Office had to hire anyone who could walk and chew bubblegum at the same time. This was a scammers opportunity. Who knows how many are now in the Post Office? Within ten years we may not even have a post office as we once knew it.
