One day, a rather inebriated ice fisherman drilled a hole in the ice. He peered into the hole and a loud voice said, “There are no fish down there.”
He walked several yards away and drilled another hole and peered into the hole and again the voice said, “There are no fish down there.”
He then walked about 50 yards away and drilled another hole and again the voice said, “There are no fish down there.”
He looked up into the sky and asked, “God, is that you?”
“No, you idiot,” the voice said, “This is a skating rink and I’m the rink manager.”
Hatteras Surf
Justins Walker caught a 48-inch drum in Rodanthe this week. Early in the week, anglers beached black drum, blues, sharks, and skates. The mid-week cold front shut things down.
Pirates Cove
Offshore charters that can sail are catching lots of yellowfin tuna and plenty of sea bass. The weather makes it hit or miss, mostly miss.
Freshwater
The best bet now are the trout streams. Lots of fish have been stocked, but the water is bitter cold, and the bites are slow. Bass are hitting at Lake Anna, as they always do throughout the winter. Crappie at Anna and Buggs are deep and deeper and clinging to bridge pilings and deep brush. Some muskies are being caught by the die-hards in the James and New rivers.
