The striper bite is on back in the sounds at Nags Head. Offshore boats are returning with good catches of Yellowfin, Wahoo and Mahi and surf anglers are beaching pups, specks and blow toads at Hatteras. It’s game on in saltwater.
Capt. Reece Stecher of Beach Bum Fishing has picked up on the good striper fishing in Albemarle Sound where he left off, when the water got cold. There are lots of fish and really nice fish to be caught. Time to book a trip at Beachbumfishing.com
Flounder are showing up in their usual haunts near Wachapreague. Specks and pups are both active now at Rudee and Lynnhaven inlets. Things are looking up.
In freshwater, the crappie are spawning at Lake Orange and have moved in close, near brush piles. Catfish are also stirring at the Orange County lake and bass are schooling, still in pre-spawn.
Shad and white perch fishing is peaking now at both the James in Downtown Richmond as well as Fredericksburg on the Rapp. Another three-pound crappie was weighed at Buggs Island. The James is quite fishable now and big smallmouth are on the prowl. Bass fishing is excellent in all the major lakes and trout fishing in the mountain streams is at its best.
