We have a little frog factory going in our back yard, there are lots of frogs and I don’t know how they all got there. Maybe the frog stork dropped them off? But we have frogs.
We began this year with three holdovers that sunk to the bottom of our little goldfish pond last winter, then came back to life this spring. One was a bullfrog that had grown from a tadpole I bought and the other two were leopard frogs from who knows where. Billy Bullfrog hung around until about June, then disappeared. I don’t know if something got him, or he was looking for greener pastures, but he left. So did the smallest leopard frog, but “Leapin’ Leopard” is still with us, as are 5 baby frogs of unknown origins. Three of them are largely green and I think they are southern leopard frogs while two have a little of brown, and I think they are just plain leopard frogs. Who knows? They’re frogs.
Early this spring there were dozens and dozens of tiny tadpoles in our smaller lily pond and Nancy put some in the goldfish pond. They have now become frogs and they’re growing like weeds.
There was a time when I worried that I wouldn’t have frogs, but no more. Business is booming in our back yard frog factory.
