Nothing beats a French Fry – salty, hot and crispy, freshly scooped from of a pan of hot oil.
But all that oil and grease? A heart attack waiting to happen and a weight gain for sure. Too bad you can’t get the flavor of a deep-fried French Fry from the oven.
Well, you almost can.
I ran across a recipe recently that – honestly – rivals that of a traditional French Fry. They were easily the best oven-baked fries I’ve ever had. Here’s how.
For this recipe, use Yukon Gold Potatoes. Wash the potatoes but leave the skins on and slice them into ¼-inch sticks. And here’s the secret. Soak the slices in hot water (out of the tap) for 10 minutes. Drain and dry the potatoes. Toss the fries in a bowl with olive oil and sprinkle with Hidden Valley Buttermilk Ranch Dressing Mix salt, garlic powder, dill weed, onion powder, and pepper. Toss to coat, making sure the spices and oil are well distributed.
Put the fries in a single layer on a baking sheet sprayed with oil. Bake at 450 for 15 minutes, flip them and bake and additional 10 minutes. Sprinkle with some extra salt out of the oven. They are crispy, bursting with flavor and delicious!!
