When Nancy and I find our way down to our favorite ocean front condo at Nag’s Head, we always enjoy a huge eat-in breakfast. On occasion, we’ll go out and squeeze into a booth at Sam and Omie’s. They have the best breakfasts on the beach – next to mine, that is.
Nancy and I typically have a fresh melon, cheese grits, eggs over easy, toast and – yes – Spencer’s Sausage. Spicy, rich, delicious.
Spencer’s Sausage is made and processed in Eastern NC, in Washington, over near Greenville and East Carolina University. They make sausage the old-fashioned way – whole hog, spicy, no preservatives and delicious. They make it in ground-form for patties and they also stuff it in a long roll of casings – my favorite.
Spencer’s is a family business, founded in Columbia, NC in the late 1920’s. It remains a family-run business, and you can tell. This is a high-quality product – the best sausage there is, outstanding flavor and very little fat.
The only place you can find Spencer’s is in the Eastern Part of NC. At Nags Head, the local grocery store in Manteo has it.
Last time we were there, I bought a large package of Spencer’s sausage, froze it, and brought it home, Last week, I opened it, and it was as good as when we served it up at our condo. If you get to Nags Head this summer, make it a point to pick up some Spencer’s Sausage. It’s that good. That way, you can have a Nags Head breakfast any time of the year.
