For almost a decade, Michael’s Restaurant at Hollymead has been filling the bellies of many patrons. Now, it’s Tony’s satisfying the same appetites. But it’s really still the same old Michaels.
Tony, the owner, bought Michaels about 9 years ago, but left the name the same. Recently, he decided to use his own name on the storefront, so now it’s Tony’s and nothing has changed.
My good friend Frank Checchi loves to eat at Tony’s, and I had never been. So, we hooked up this week and slid into one of their convenient booths. Frank said the best things on the menu were the Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich and the Eggplant Parmigiana and he ordered both. One to eat there and one to heat up for supper. The Tuna Club Sandwich with Hard Boiled Eggs looked good to me, and it was. Good, very good. They also serve steaks, chops, burgers, and Italian entrees.
When we arrived, our server said we could order anything on the menu – breakfast, lunch or dinner, or a combination. They are very accommodating at Tony’s, the prices are affordable, the ambience is welcoming, and the entire wait staff is exceedingly friendly.
Tony’s doesn’t have many fancy dishes – mostly comfort and grill food, but they have a nice selection of Greek specialties. Tony, is, after all, Greek.
I don’t know why I had never visited the restaurant until now. Mostly, I suppose, because I rarely eat out at lunch and there are closer places for breakfast and dinner.
But I hear that their Fish & Chips are among the best in town and the Fried Shrimp Platter also looked enticing. I will definitely go back soon, and I give Michael’s/Tony’s my highest recommendation.
They are open from 7am till 3 on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and from 7am till 8pm on Thursday through Sundays. Tony’s is located at 3450 Seminole Trail in Charlottesville.
