Years ago, when Outback was still in Albemarle Square, it was our go-to restaurant. Frequently, at the last minute, we went to Outback, pulled up two stools at the bar and enjoyed a meal out. When Outback moved to Seminole Square and expanded, it was never as good – still good, mind you, but not the same.
Now, our last minute go-to place is the Texas Roadhouse. It is consistently excellent.
Their Rib-eye steaks are the best in town at any price, and they always cook them as you wish – no surprises. Number two on their menu for me is their Fried Catfish – lightly breaded, crispy brown and served piping hot delicious with their delicious remoulade sauce. The Roadhouse makes all their salad dressings in-house as well, and their salads are terrific. Nothing fancy, just a nice assortment of crisp lettuce, vegetable, eggs, cheese and croutons. Their Blue Cheese dressing is unequaled.
In a world of rising prices, their drinks are most reasonable. I had a double Maker’s and ginger ale for $12, I believe. Their wines are also priced well.
Texas Roadhouse? What can I say? Consistently delicious.
