Nancy said she wanted to go out to eat at a Mexican restaurant and she had just given me a new stovetop, so what could I say? We chose one of Charlottesville’s most consistently good Mexican restaurants – Guadalajara.
Known fondly as The Guad, we have been eating here for years. The prices are more than fair, the service is good, and they always serve more-than-you-can-eat helpings. Nancy ordered some kind of Burrito Platter and left the restaurant stuffed to the gills along a with a doggy bag for more than enough for the next day’s lunch.
I ordered the Special Yucatan, which came with some of the best shrimp I’ve ever had. They served three huge, heads-on shrimp that tasted like lobster – absolutely delicious. The menu is vast, with every conceivable Mexican entrée, but
next time I go, I’m going to try their version of a Mexican Smashburger with all the special Tex/Mex condiments and seasonings.
Guadalajara has three locations in Charlottesville – Pantops, Downtown and Greenbrier Drive. We generally eat at the Greenbrier location at 395 Greenbrier Dr. Reservations are not required, and the hours are from 11 am till 10 PM on most days.
Guadalajara, it’s certainly a restaurant where you’ll never leave hungry.
