There are a number of good, casual restaurants – Chili’s, Ruby Tuesday’s, Olive Garden, TGI Fridays and Applebee’s, to name a few. We once had an Applebee’s near the old Toys R Us store, but they shuttered the windows in a cost-cutting move two years ago. There is still an Applebee’s on Pantops, serving that side of town.
On our way back from golfing, my golf buddies and I decided to eat at Applebee’s in Harrisonburg after our round.
Appleby’s is not fancy, but it is and always has been a solid restaurant choice.
I like Applebee’s because of the variety. They cook a mean burger if that’s what you want and they have decent ribs. They do steaks and chicken nuggets, ribs and pasta, and usually have a seafood dish or two on the menu. They offer a variety of sandwiches and feature a two-fer deal at about twenty-two bucks for two entrees – a great value.
I went for a French Dip Sandwich and it was very good – with especially good French Fries. I also ordered a House Salad and it was very good with cold, crisp lettuce, an assortment of other veggies and cheeses.
Applebee’s was founded in 1980 in Decatur, GA. They do busines in the US and 7 foreign countries. Their original vision was to “to create a restaurant that had a neighborhood pub feel to it and could offer friendly service along with quality fare at a lower price than most of their competition.” They have served that goal very well.
Applebee’s was acquired by IHOP in 2007. Together, the two combine to make the largest full-service restaurant company in the world, with more than 3,250 locations
Applebee’s – good food, fair prices, decent service and a good restaurant choice for many occasions.
