Houston, we’ve got a problem.
Actually, it’s Virginia, we’ve got a problem. We are losing our wildlife and habitat and the funds to help are drying up.
For years, license fees for hunters and fishermen fully supported the Game Department, now called the Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR). Those fees paid for the salaries of Biologists and Game Wardens, in addition to fund the purchase and management of Wildlife Management Areas. Our problem is very simple: fewer and fewer sportsmen are buying those licenses because there are fewer and fewer people now who hunt and fish.
The license fees need to be supplemented and non-fishers and non-hunters can help.
“Join our mission to ensure Virginia’s wildlife has healthy places to live and thrive by donating to our Restore the Wild program,” asks the DWR. “Habitat loss and degradation threaten nearly all of Virginia’s wildlife, from elk, to turtles, to even our smallest pollinators.”
“By donating to our Restore the Wild program, you’re directly supporting critical habitat restoration that helps wildlife thrive. Even better, your gift is matched 3-to-1 by federal funds, turning every dollar into four. Join us now in protecting Virginia’s diverse wildlife and preserving natural habitats for future generations. 100% of your dollars will support habitat projects vital for the survival of Virginia’s wildlife across the state.”
As we come to the end of the year, consider a tax deductible gift to benefit Virginia’s vulnerable wildlife. Go to
