The Blues Are Back
On the saltwater scene, lots of anglers have “The Blues”, as in bluefish. Blues are surfacing on the lower Chesapeake, along the Virginia Beach Shore and at Nags Head on the OBX. Grey Trout Make A Showing
The water temp along the Virginia Beach ocean front is up to 62 degrees and things are starting to happen. Grey trout made a showing at Rudee Inlet this week. They should soon be biting along the CBBT. Big black drum are now in the shallows of the Eastern Shore. Red drum are there as well. Fisherman’s Island is a hotspot. Cobia Hit the OBX
The Cobia have arrived. Captain Ryan out of Manteo hit the jackpot as he was coming back to port and caught his limit of cobia. Not only are the cobia hitting, keeper-sized puppy drum are thick in the Albemarle Sound. Capt. Super Duper Mahi Action
Last Saturday was an exceptional day for boats patrolling the Gulf Stream out of Oregon Inlet. The Mahi Mahi fishing was on fire. One boat returned with 50 of these spectacular fighters. In addition to the dolphin catch, there were also yellowfin tuna, blackfin tuna, lots of king mackerel, wahoo and albacore gaffed and a sailfish release. Trout in the South
There are lots and lots of trout now in the South River in Waynesboro. The state has stocked trout twice so far, and the local chapter of TU has added three more loads – plus, there were plenty of holdovers to start off with. Red drum, that is. Big red drum. Over the weekend, schools of large red drum were sighted off Rudee Inlet. Some have already entered the Bay. The striper bite is on back in the sounds at Nags Head. What a Walleye!
Tim Walts of Crozet caught and released this 29-inch walleye on the Rivanna River on Valentine’s Day. It was a sweetheart of a fish, that’s for sure.
