(1 of 20,000)
I have now ordered 20,000 meal worms from Fluker Farms. I fully expect that amount will last me through the season. My bluebirds have produced two nests and my goal is to supplement the hard-working creatures while they try to feed many hungry beaks.
In past years, I have run out of meal worms at the end of the season and have had to buy them from local pet shops, and they are expensive – $15 for 500. I buy 5,000 mealies from Fluker for $24.50 plus freight.
My bluebirds second nest should be fledging in a few days and to keep them around, I will keep their bowl filled with live, wiggly worms.
Bluebirds have made an amazing comeback in the past 20 years as more and more birdhouses have been erected. Supplementing the chicks with meal worms only helps the cause.
If you ever need meal worms, by the way, go to FlukerFarms.com. Call them before noon on one day and they are on your porch the next afternoon. A hundred bucks a year is a small price to pay to enjoy the beauty of backyard bluebirds.
