My tomato vines are now over 6 feet tall, and they are full of blooms and baby tomatoes. As a matter of fact, I picked my first tomato today – plump, ripe and juicy. It looks like it’s going to be a great season.
I give credit to the promising crop because of three main reasons – first, Mother Nature has blessed us with plenty of rain so far, Second, I took Mark Levisay’s advice and put a tall stake beside each plant, then secured the main vine to the stake as the plant grew, encouraging the vine to grow up and not out. Finally, my kids gave me a beautifully tilled garden this fall along with a bag of Bio-Tone Starter Plus, and that was a game changer.
Bio-Tone is a blend of natural and organic ingredients enhanced with microbes and mycorrhizae. Microbes occur naturally in gardens and are essential for nutrient cycling, a process that transforms nutrients into forms that plants can easily absorb. If a plant can’t absorb nitrogen, for example, it will languish. Microbes also help plants establish stronger root systems from the get-go.
Mycorrhizae permits the plant to obtain additional moisture and nutrients. When mycorrhizae is present, plants are less susceptible to water stress. One of the biggest downfalls of past gardens is reaction to droughts. It seems we have one almost every summer when plants shrivel up and die. Mycorrhizae helps plants survive during drought periods by taking in more of the water that is available.
